July Adult Activities

INDEPENDENCE DAY CLOSURE

The Library will be closed Tuesday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.

No items will be due but the book drop will remain open. Thank you!

“ALL TOGETHER NOW” BLOCK PARTY

This is the Block Party everyone will be talking about this summer! Inspired by our summer reading theme “All Together Now”, we’ll have lawn games from all over the world, food trucks to fill any craving, a climbing wall and bounce houses, plus international performers including Footworks Dance Studio, the Yellowstone Brass, Amelat Dance Company, and Proform Airborne Jump Rope. There’ll be something for everyone at all ages. Don’t miss out! The celebration begins July 8th 5:00-8:00 P.M. on the field next to the library.

Stay after the Block Party on July 8 for an outdoor movie experience that starts at 9 P.M.!

Bring your blankets and chairs and set up a comfy place right on the lawn. Enjoy a “Spidey” movie for the whole family!

CREATIVE WRITING CLUB

Share your writing with other storytelling enthusiasts or join to make friends! Join the Creative Writing Club for ages 18+. We will share our favorite piece and talk about why writing is our passion.

July 11 is all about “Potential Energy” with popsicle stick chain reactions and balloon powered cars
July 18 is our LEGO Club for ages 6-18. We will build world landmarks with LEGOS!
July 25 is “Building Together” with cup towers and tin foil boats

Storytime: “K” is for Kisses

“K” is for kisses and of course… hugs! Everyone needs to feel loved and accepted one way or another. Studies have shown that showing affection increases a child’s social, emotional, physical, and brain development. Even if your child doesn’t like hugs and kisses, try laughing, dancing, and playing with them to help them be happier and feel less anxious.

Join us Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. or Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room.

Ages 2-5

Sing, Talk, Read, Write, Play

Tip

Scientific studies have shown that children develop best when they have a strong, positive relationship with a nurturing adult. This helps not only their physical development, but their intellectual development as well. Hugs and kisses and be just as important as flash cards in getting a child ready for success in school. – Megan Lambert

March Mother Daughter Book Club

Hello Mother Daughter Book Club friends! Welcome to our American Girls discussion page. For our March 4, 2021 meeting, we will highlight our library’s incredible collection of American Girl books, and you can help us! Here’s what you need to do:

1. Check out an American Girl book. You can find them in our catalog here.

2. Read the book together.

3. Create costumes for yourselves in the time period of the American Girl book you chose. (This is totally fun, but also totally optional.)

4. Find a “companion” book that takes place in the same time period as your American Girl book or explains something that your main character likes so you can share it with our book club.

5. Come to our Mother Daughter Book Club meeting on Thursday, March 4 @ 6:30- 7:30 p.m. in your costume for an American Girl fashion show! We will all get to tell each other about the book we chose.

*We will hand out a Take ‘n Go craft at the meeting.

On our Facebook event page, you can talk with other MDBC members, and if any of you want to get together, read the same book, and do your “fashion” show together, you can connect to do planning here. You can also post thoughts about your book.

On the Same Page: A Good Long Walk

A Good Long Walk

As all Austen readers know, her characters are champion walkers. Whatever the novel, the heroine will at some point go on a good, long walk. Persuasion is no exception as all the younger folk at Uppercross head over the hills to stretch their legs. We’re going to take the outing a bit further and take the major journeys of the novel on foot as well. You can decide how much you’re willing to take on and which direction you’d like to go. Feel like some time by the sea? It’s 17 miles to Lyme Regis. Spend your month there if you’d like. Do you prefer the society of Bath? That’s a little longer journey at 47 miles. Enjoy the concerts and parties! If you’re really just wanting to walk and then walk some more, you could walk to Lyme Regis and from there to Bath for a total of 77 miles. Don’t worry, you can send for a carriage at any time.

It doesn’t matter which destination you select. Anyone turning their log in before noon on Monday, February 22, will be entered into a drawing for a volume containing all of Jane Austen’s works.

On the Same Page: Selfie Scavenger Hunt

This February, be on the lookout for things that tie in to our On the Same Page book Persuasion. See if you can get a photo of each of the following items. So that we’ll know it wasn’t something you just Google searched, we want to see you in the picture as well! Print out your photos and turn them in before noon on Monday, February 22. We’ll see who can get the most to win a volume containing all of Jane Austen’s novels. If there are multiple people getting all of them, we’ll have to see who has the closest representation to what’s in the book!
