The Madison Library District is excited to announce that we will begin phase three opening for limited hours starting Monday, June 22.
We will be following the CDC guidelines and practicing social distancing. This means we will have to limit the number of people in the building to 125 at any given time. Use of the library will be primarily for browsing and to check out materials. Some materials may be unavailable for check out.
Computer usage and seating will be very limited to encourage social distancing. Please be respectful of others and keep your visit short to allow others the opportunity to use the Library. As always children under 12 should be attended by an adult.
The book return will continue to be open. Please return materials to the book drops. If you have questions about materials or due dates, please contact us at 208-356-3461.
We continue to add virtual programs to our social media sites. For digital materials, please visit our website at madisonlib.org
Thank you for your patience! We look forward to seeing you!
Your library is your paradise.
We hope to extend our hours in the near future. Please continue to monitor our website and social media for further information.
Since the world is an uncertain place, we thought it would be fun to journey with some of our own favorite literary characters, and create our own Fellowship of Wanderers who journey throughout Madison County.
We’ll have some fun prizes, and everyone in the family can join in! Keep track of the miles you walk this summer. You may create your own log, or use ours. You can download a digital copy here, or pick up a paper version from the Library during our curbside pickup hours.
Remember, you may only count miles after you begin the challenge. Scroll down for full details.
It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door … You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to. Do you realize that this is the very path that goes through Mirkwood, and that if you let it, it might take you to the Lonely Mountain or even further and to worse places?
Walk 45 miles this summer = 3 miles per week
Walk 90 miles this summer = 6 miles per week
Walk 150 miles this summer = 10 miles per week
Pick up a coupon for a refreshing beverage at the “Shire Pub” (a 20 oz drink from Great Scott’s) after completing your stroll of 45 miles around the Shire, after walking 90 miles to the “Ents’ Spring,” and after your 150 mile trek up to the summit of Mt. Doom.
The week following Labor Day, turn in your log at the Library to show us how far you got. The five “Hobbits” with the top mileage in each age group will get a copy of a Tolkien novel. The three with the most mileage from all ages combined will get a boxed set of Lord of the Rings. The walker with the most miles overall will receive a Ring to Rule Them All.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

We are taking the necessary steps to keep our staff and patrons safe. The Library building continues to be closed, but we will start phasing services to open.
Starting May 6, we will begin curbside delivery Monday and Friday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, and Wednesday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. We will be closed Tuesday and Thursday to allow books time to sanitize. To use this service, patrons may place up to 15 items on hold using our online catalog, or by telephone. You will be contacted by the usual means you have selected when your items come in (either email or phone). Please allow 48 hours AFTER this notification for us to get your items ready and available for you.
The book return will continue to be open. Please return materials to the book drops. If you have questions about materials or due dates, please contact us at 208-356-3461.

The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library.
We’ve received some important information regarding mail-in ballots for our upcoming primary election in May. Please read the full text:
In order to keep communities safe amid the growing coronavirus pandemic and protect citizens’ right to vote, Idahoans will vote in the May Primary Election from home. If you want to vote in the upcoming election, you will need to request your ballot at IdahoVotes.gov.
Here are the three steps you need to take to vote in the May Primary Election:
1. Request Your Ballot.
You must request your ballot by May 19, 2020 in order to vote. You can request your ballot online through the Secretary of State’s Office at IdahoVotes.gov. You can also contact the Madison County Elections for help at 208-359-6244. You can also pick up a ballot request and registration form in the front entry of the Administration Building in a box to the left of the door.
Please note, you will need to be registered to vote to participate in the upcoming election. You can register online at IdahoVotes.gov.
2. Wait for Your Ballot.
Once you’ve requested your ballot, give Madison County Elections some time to process your request and drop your ballot in the mail. It may take up to 10 days for you to receive your ballot once you’ve submitted your request.
You can track your ballot, and confirm your ballot request has been received, at IdahoVotes.gov.
3. Vote and Return Your Ballot.
As soon as you receive your ballot, vote and use the pre-addressed envelope to mail it back to Madison County Elections.
All ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on June 2, 2020 to be counted. Voters are encouraged to send their ballots back to us as soon as possible.
If you would rather drop your voted ballot off, Madison County Elections will have a drop off box at the main doors of the Administration Building, 134 E. Main in Rexburg.
You can help protect the health of all Idahoans and slow the spread of COVID-19 by voting from home. If you have any questions about the May Primary Election contact Madison County Elections for help at 208-359-6244.

Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.
