The One

by Kiera Cass

The time has come for one winner to be crowned.

When she was chosen to compete in the Selection, America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown—or to Prince Maxon’s heart. But as the end of the competition approaches, and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose—and how hard she’ll have to fight for the future she wants.

Ratings and Reviews from the Librarians

Vivian rated it ★★★★ and said, “Four stars for satisfying entertainment. The author obeyed all the rules she’d set up for her story, she stayed in charge of her script, there were sufficient twists and turns to keep me engaged through this third and final installment, and the fact that it was syrupy was fine with me. I liked that she avoided the trend of first person present tense narration — a writing style with which I have little patience (although she uses it in the epilogue). I liked that the chapters did not switch point of view, ever. Thank you. I liked that it was America’s story, not Aspen’s or Maxon’s or anyone else’s. I liked that she had a little fun renaming countries and toying with politics, but that she never meant for any of it to be taken seriously. She didn’t have any agenda (that I could see) other than entertaining. It’s refreshing to read a book that doesn’t demand any ‘conversations’. I liked that her characters were consistent through the series. I liked all the strings being neatly tied up. Yes, I may have had a disappointment or two, but hey. I wouldn’t mind her following this up with spin-off series. For me this was as much fun as Pride and Prejudice.”

Lorna rated it ★★★★ and said, “3 1/2 stars rounded up. Nothing great, but for the most part I enjoyed my time spent at the Palace and was satisfied with the way everything turned out.”

Bekka rated it ★★★ and said, “3 1/2 stars—This was a good conclusion to the series. I still think the MC is a bit on the wishy washy side, but she has grown over the course of the books. I thought the ending was slightly contrived, but overall this was an enjoyable read.”

Miranda rated it ★★★.

Betsy rated it ★★★ and said, “Definitely kept me guessing until the end. There might have been a few too many plot twist though.”
