NOTICE OF POLICY CHANGES

At a recent meeting of the Madison Library District Board of Trustees, some cost-saving changes were made to library policies that will be of interest to you.

This is a summary only. The complete text can be found at: www.madisonlib.org/policies.html.

1.         No overdue notices will be mailed. Postage and personnel costs have increased to the point where we can no longer afford to mail notices. Options for overdue notices are:

           a.        Keep your checkout slip

           b.        Email

           c.        Automated telephone call

           d.        Library Elf: www.libraryelf.com (pick up a brochure at the reference or circulation desk or just sign up online)

           e.        Notices will be mailed for fines and lost materials before your account is turned to the collection agency. Only accounts over $25 are sent to the collection agency.

2.         “Claims Returned” and Lost materials

           a.        If you think you’ve returned an item that is still on your card, you and the library have six weeks to find the material before it ages to the Lost state and a charge for the item appears on your card.

           b.        If the library finds the material, there will be no charge on your card, of course.

           c.        If you pay for the item and then find it, it’s yours. No refund will be issued.

           d.        If the library finds the item and you’ve paid for it, you will receive a refund.

           e.        The library cannot accept patron-purchased replacements.

3.         If someone else uses your library card, with or without your permission, to access the library computers, both you and the person who used your card will be suspended from computer use for one year. Please safeguard your library card. It acts much like a credit card, so if you lose it or it is stolen, please notify the library immediately.
