TRUSTEE BOARD MEETING
Minutes
Wednesday, February 18, 2009
The meeting was called to order at 5:05 pm by Blaine Robertson, chairman. Board members present were Blaine Robertson, Jeniel Facer, Gordon Timothy and Henry Benavidez. Pam Beard was excused because she was out of town. Lorna Smith was in attendance in place of Judy Dewey who was also out of town.
The minutes of the last meeting were unanimously approved upon Jeniel’s motion; Gordon seconded the motion. Henry made the motion to approve the bills with a second by Jeniel and all voted in favor. The checks for the purpose of paying the bills were signed.
Book Challenge
A children’s book, The Dirty Cowboy by Amy Timberlake, which had been formally challenged by a patron was reviewed by the board. After a discussion, it was decided to leave the book in question in the collection.
Resolution No. 7
The Beehive Facility Purchase Resolution No. 7 was approved following a motion to approve by Gordon and a second given by Henry.
The items in the Beehive building now belong to the library. There are mirrors, a fax machine, and a microwave. The bricks may be stripped off and sold. It was suggested that the bricks could possibly be used as a fundraiser since they will need to be removed anyway. John Osai has a business in Idaho Falls of moving homes if anyone is interested in that possibility.
Architect’s Presentation
The architects presented the latest floor plans for the addition and remodel. They are moving along at a good pace and should be ready for a bid the first part of July. The board approved the plans. Gordon suggested that a place be set aside for special collections, perhaps with locked cabinets where valuable books can be kept.
Executive Session
The board then adjourned into executive session.
Tuition Reimbursement
After the executive session, a motion was made by Gordon and seconded by Henry to authorize Judy flexibility in the way she handles reimbursement of tuition for staff taking online courses. A partial reimbursement for one staff member of $500.00 was authorized. The balance can be reimbursed upon demonstration of satisfactory progress. If satisfactory progress is not made, reimbursement must be made to the library district of any funds already paid.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 pm.
