TRUSTEE BOARD MEETING
Minutes
Wednesday, July 9, 2008
The meeting was called to order at 5:10 by Chairman, Blaine Robertson. Board members present were Jeanna Huff, Blaine Robertson, Pam Beard, and Judy Dewey, Secretary.
Board Vacancies
Jeniel Facer and Scott Galer had both expressed an interest in filling the position currently held by Jeanna Huff, who learned after the June meeting that she is going with her family overseas for a year. Each expressed their interest in serving on the board. A discussion was held about what a board member does.
Minutes
The minutes of the last meeting were approved upon motion by Pam and seconded by Jeanna. All voted in favor.
Treasurer
A short discussion was held about the new treasurer for the library. Jacob Harlan has agreed to serve as such on a volunteer basis.
Trading Holidays
The board approved the staff trading July 24th, which is a scheduled holiday for the staff, for the 26th and 27th of December. The library needs to be open on July 24th because of the scheduled open house.
Bond Election
Judy was assigned to call Q102, Dave Plourde, and ask him to announce the early voting and the open houses and the bond on the election day itself.
Jeanna will arrange for announcements/interviews on KBYI.
Judy will ask Amber about the banners used on the car for the parade and let Blaine know the status of those.
A discussion was held about the Standard Journal’s coverage, or lack thereof, of library activities. Several suggestions for articles have been sent to the newspaper with no resulting publication. Judy was assigned to call one of the reporters she knows to see what can be done about that.
Miranda will paint the library windows with the bond election date.
Judy will send a letter about election day announcements to Rexburg businesses who have marquees and ask if they would also put up something on the open house days.
Open Houses
Jack Weyland will be at the library tomorrow evening and share some of his work. Andra Hansen will be here next week; she writes children’s books. Several local poets will be here on the third week to share their poetry.
Judy is to check with Marilyn about the cost of printing the ballots.
Mountain Valley Quilt Guild has formally endorsed the bond. Judy is to call Donna Benfield at the Chamber of Commerce and ask if they voted on supporting the library bond.
Judy will also ask Amber about the door hanger she designed.
Executive Session
At this point, the board adjourned into executive session.
The board then reconvened in open meeting to vote on two new board members. Pam made the motion that we accept Henry Benavides as a board member to fill Roger's position. Jeanna seconded the motion and all voted in favor. Jeanna then nominated Jeniel Facer to fill her position upon her anticipated resignation after the bond election. Pam seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. Jeniel and Henry will be sworn in at the August meeting.
The meeting was adjourned upon Pam’s motion at 6:22 pm.
