TRUSTEE BOARD MEETING
Minutes
April 19, 2006
The meeting was called to order at 5:17 pm by Chairman, Blaine Robertson. Board members present were Lee Anne Kinghorn, Blaine Robertson, Tricia Galer, Roger Jackson, and Judy Dewey. Gordon Timothy was absent.
The minutes of the last meeting were unanimously approved. The bills were approved upon motion by Tricia, seconded by Lee Anne, and the checks paying the bills were signed.
Jan and Dale Wright had asked to attend the board meeting for the purpose of objecting to the book, How to Lose Your Ass by Kirstie Alley. They were joined by Irene Price. Jan presented her objections to the content and language of the book. The board explained the library’s collection policy, the selection criteria, and the library’s efforts to provide a broad range of materials for our patrons while striving to be in line with community standards. The board expressed appreciation to the Wrights and Mrs. Price for taking the time to attend the meeting.
The date for the supplemental budget hearing to appropriate funds for the RFID purchase was set for May 17th. Judy will arrange to publish the required notices in the newspaper.
The issue of summer Saturday hours was discussed. Upon Roger’s motion and Tricia’s second, the board adopted the following, subject to review and evaluation in October of this year:
The library will be open, starting the Saturday after the Memorial Day weekend, every Saturday from 10 am until 2 pm, except the Saturday of Labor Day weekend when the library will be closed. Shortened Saturday hours shall continue after the Labor Day weekend, unless upon review the board should decide to modify this policy.
The staff had proposed revisions to the library’s mission statement. In the interest of time, the board decided to table this matter until the next meeting.
Upon Lee Anne’s motion and Roger’s second, the board unanimously agreed to revise Paragraph 10 of the Public Computer Use Policy as follows:
10. The user agrees to the time allotment of one hour per day (24 hour period) and understands that this time is not accruable. Use of the computer is limited to one time per day (24 hour period). The user agrees that the user’s own, individual, valid Library card free of fines is needed to access the computers.
The board then began the first reading of the proposed Personnel Policy and read through the current section I. Bereavement Leave.
Two board members had prior commitments and left at 6:10. There not being a quorum present, the meeting was adjourned at 6:12 pm.
