Madison Library District
Long Range Plan 2008
1. During the next five years, the Madison Library District will work to accomplish the following long range goals:
a. Public Relations
i. Continue to promote the library through articles in the newspapers and on the local public calendars (i.e., the Chamber of Commerce, the City of Rexburg, etc.)
ii. Continue to maintain a website presence that is accurate, informative, and up-to-date.
iii. Email notification of overdue materials, especially pre-notification of materials coming due.
iv. Continue to cultivate and maintain relationships with public service organizations, such as the GFWC, the Chamber of Commerce, etc.
v. Distribute a monthly library newsletter.
b. Patron Services
i. Improve processing times for new materials.
ii. Improve signage in the library so patrons are better able to help themselves.
iii. Improve communications with other libraries in the region regarding LiLI Express.
iv. Continue to improve and expand use of the book wagon.
v. Continue to improve the displays that have recently been added.
c. Programming
i. As space, time, and money allow, offer more programs in the library.
ii. Continue the excellent children’s programming now being offered.
iii. Improve the completion rate for the summer reading programs for both children and adults.
d. Security
i. Prepare and institute a disaster emergency plan.
ii. Monitor materials being removed from the library by maintaining accuracy of the security gates.
e. Personnel
i. Encourage continuing education for staff through use of online courses, especially those offered free of charge by the Idaho Commission for Libraries and other library associations.
ii. Continue to provide funds and time for travel to library-related meetings.
iii. Continue to subsidize formal college and library degrees through partial reimbursement of tuition.
2. During the next eighteen months, the Madison Library District will work to accomplish the following short range goals:
a. New Library
i. Work with architects to develop basic and detailed plans, especially the following:
(1) staff work areas
(2) children’s section
(3) young adult section
(4) quiet adult areas
ii. Construct addition and remodel the current facility.
b. Policy Manual
i. Continue work to complete the Policy Manual for the library.
c. Internal procedures
i. Fully implement MS Outlook using the exchange server
ii. Institute email pre-notification of items coming due
iii. Pursue online registration for new cards
iv. Resolve problems with the SmartChute book return
